for you? I can make it happen today if that works best for you
if you're available today, I'd love to get the ball rolling. I need some help so bad man

@Mike - hey man, just sent you a resume, curious to get your thoughts on her.....
She has NO API or low code/no code experience really......more of a database admin than anything else.....
Felt like maybe you would think it was too outside the box to make sense, but thought I would give you the option to tell me no -- wondered if youd consider training someone like her, or does the no API exposure kill it for you
I did. I'm sorry I've been running like fuckin crazy man
I'm in another meeting right now. as soon as humanly possible I'll check it out and get back to you this afternoon
hey bud. I shot you an email reply. holler at me if you need anything, or if I can help with anything
also wanted to say thanks for your work finding Alem
@Mike Hey bud -- please look at the two resumes I'm attaching below
Both of these guys are currently interviewing, so if we like em, we gotta move quickly.
Please let me know when you have a moment to review -- I think they're both worth a chat. Both have some experience with APIs and with no/low code platforms. Both have excellent comm skills and would fit into our salary range AND be ok coming into the office as needed (which is very very hard to come by).
Lets chat when you can, please.
@deleted-U056TJH4KUL thank you sir! I'll review these and get back to you in the morning if that's ok
Totally fine -- just wanna move quickly if we can on them -- market is interviewing out there a lot
Hey bud. when you have a sec would you mind showing me the job listing for the systems integration specialist?
Ahsan is very overqualified for the role, so I'm really worried about them getting bored. May still be worth setting up a phone interview though. Shane looks like a job hopper and has a few gaps in his history, and idk why but his use of the word "nanodegree" bugs me for some reason lol
we might have a couple of other roles that ahsan may fit. I'll ask around and see.
https://www.linkedin.com/in/apollodraco/
btw, we do the "phone" interview through google meet so we can record it, but the candidate does not have to have their webcam on if they don't want to
good morning! I thought of two things that might be worth adding to the job listing: basic understanding of both JSON and XML
Here's another guy who could be an option, a bit lower level than the guy you passed on for being too technical and strong
that's the guy we were looking at on linkedin last week
I didn't do a deep dive or anything. I'll look over his resume today
I spoke with him, he;s got good comm skills, a good technical foundtaion, and is lookignt o grow
good morning! I looked over Apollo, and while I think he's well overqualified on paper, I'd still be willing to do a phone interview. same with Shane.
I know you think he’s wildly overqualified, but he’s in our price range and his expectations are stability not growth
Here's the next one I mentioned, @Mike -- I like Phil a lot. Maybe the strongest of the group for API usage, along with no/low code exposure
Pretty good comm skills, a bit of an accent but nothing crazy
What's your availability next week for interviews with these guys -- and will you be doing a phone interview, or do you prefer a teams/zoom?
yo.. sorry about that. phil looks pretty good, let's get him scheduled as well please sir. we use google meet, but no cams
just so we can conference and record. but I prefer for everyones cam to be off
and as far as availability, the best thing would be to use my calendly link -- https://calendly.com/mike-shield/interview
they don't have to put in their phone number or anything, but even if they did, I hope you know that I would never go behind your back. you've been incredibly helpful, to me especially. I also believe we have the same values -- it's better to be honest and build long term relationships than to fuck someone over for a quick buck
I have a super high level of trust with you, no worries
@Mike - OK, threw them all in your calendar -- I used my email just so I can get the links, email to them, and ensure it doesnt hit spam -- we also include other info in our itinerary email besides the link, too -- I put their personal cells in there and if, for whatever reason, the link doesnt work you are more than welcome to reach out to them directly
I got all the alerts lol. I appreciate it man. have a great weekend!
good morning, and happy monday! have I already asked you for a copy of the latest job listing? I don't remember, and I can't find it anywhere. I just want to make sure that my questions and everything are in line with the listing
We did not receive a job listing from you guys on this one....
We just got essentially that youre looking for no/low code experience, API eposure, willing to be on site 5x a week, fit within the salary range, and willing to be hands on
we've essentially gone out to find people that fit within those general params, tried to understand more specifically what theyve done, and if it would be applicable to what you need
ahh I gotcha. just got off the phone with ahsan.. I want to shortlist him
great communicator, super likable, seems to be inline with what we're looking for
and yes, in general, we do not receive JDs for roles we are working on for Shield/Tort - or any of the other dbas -- we learn what we can from a phone call or two, and then try and piece the rest together
that makes sense. I just didn't want to be way in the weeds compared to the listing. I think I'm good though
yeah, feel free to get as in depth as you need - i want to make sure they'
I love these non-technical interviews man.. they are so much more laid back than hiring devs
absolutely! team fit is #1 goal.. you can have the cure for cancer, but if you don't fit the team, you're not getting hired
he did say he was employed and looking at other offers, but that ours sounded the best so far. I told him I'd have an answer no later than friday and he was cool with that. said the only thing he needs is to put in a 2 week notice
leave the money part to me, i promise i have shield best intentions in mind -- makes the convo from your side more about the role and opportunity, and then i can be the bad guy around money
roger that! I don't ever discuss money with candidates. and I already know your intentions are good man. the only problem is you keep sending me all this kick ass people to interview lol.. like I damn near don't even want to do the other interviews and just hire ashan 🤣
@Mike wanted you to revisit Sean, too, if you would.....He would not be a fit within this current role (he's a bit too expensive), but I wondered if you might be open to him somewhere else within the company. He has strong API and dev skills -- super friendly guy (a little dude-ish at times, but very nice).
I was curious if you knew of another place within the company that might make sense for him -- thoughts?
that's hilarious.. I actually looked over sean's resume again this morning! I liked him, but I'm afraid we just don't have any place to put him right now. I've been asking around about what positions we're looking to fill, so if I hear anything I'll let you know
I wonder how many hires I can talk them into letting me have 🤔
Phil is really nice too -- Apollo is good, maybe a bit less effervescent, so to speak, but nice
almost everyone in this field is "quirky" in one way or another. I don't let that bias me... that's also why I say no cameras when interviewing. it helps take away some of the anxiety
@Mike - hey bud, how did you feel about apollo compared to the other 2
love the voicemail -- "or just send a text like a normal person"
I'm still torn between phil and ahsan. I'm going to pull cam to the side today and ask him directly about hiring both of them
Thank you sir. I promise I won't keep you waiting too long
I requested cam give me a call. he said he would, but I'm still waiting to hear from him
good morning! cam wasn't able to call me yesterday, but said he would this morning. I'll have an answer for you by eod either way, whether I talk to cam or not. all I'm trying to do now is see if I can get approval for 2 hires.
if he gives the green light I want ahsan and phil please sir.
good morning! did cam ever give you a call yesterday?
Yes chatted with him. He wants me to talk with Nick McFadden to discuss how one of these people might fit with Nicks teams needs since he’s hiring someone too.
The idea would be for them to report to Nick, and then could also be loaned out to you when needed.
So you’d hire one under you and Nick would hire one too.
jfc for real? fuck it then.. just hire 1 one of them for my team. I'm not playing this fucking game of "is my direct report able to work for me today"
the next position you may be looking to fill is mine. I've had about all I can take
If we feel like Ahsan is the number one, and we want to hire him no matter what, should we get going on making up an offer while we talk to Cam and figure out what’s gonna happen with Phil?
We set out with a range of 90-100k for this role.
While Ahsan would love 100, I think we can get him a bit cheaper.
How do you feel about 94k on the base for him?
What’s the title for this role?
Senior Data Engineer?
Systems Integration Engineer?
once he's on board and everything, if he's able to specialize in a more niche area of the department, like something to do with data, then we can give him a different title.. and the title bump would also be a low or no cost to us "bonus" and a way to simulate vertical growth within the department
the more I think about it, I kinda like him having a different title than dwight. sounds a lot cooler to say this is our systems integration specialist, and this is our data engineer
I remember him saying he needs to put in a 2 week notice
Still working the angles, give me some time on that but I’m working it
thank you. I honestly do feel a little conflicted and bad for not hiring him. he got beat by ahsan by 1 point lol
I'm gonna let you work your magic. if there's anything I can help with on my end just holler at me
if nick needs a dev more than I need a 2nd person then what about doing it the other way around... hire a dev for nick, and let me borrow them when needed. just a thought.. trying to come up with a win/win
@Mike -- Good news dude-- Shane got the offer and accepted today to work under Nick
another guy you really liked -- and hes pretty well suited for the role
Cory! my man! hope everything is going well in your neck of the woods. I was wondering if you knew Ahsan's starting salary?
same here man. trying to get things in order, onboard ahsan, and stay on top of my day-to-day shit... so basically another typical day lol
