We have two people talking to Nick Ward -- One today, one tomorrow - and then they should be on to you.

We also have a couple more people submitted to Cam, but if these two make sense for you guys I didn't want to waste your time with additional interviews.

@Ryan I interview first, then Nick Ward (McFadden is out), then you. Important I weed out crappy candidates.

Daniel Schussler: • Currently living in SF/Bay Area, but hates it there, and desperately wants to get back to Vegas where he spent 13 years. He could be there in 48 hours to start working, if needed -- Has a friends place he can crash at immediately while he looks for long term housing - but he hates the bay area and has zero desire to be there long term • A bit softer spoken, but very nice and good comm skills • His last role at Quadient ended a while back and he has been consulting since then • Decent experience with python and sql - he said he would give himself a 5/10 in both area and that he's always trying to learn more • Used APIs at Quadient • Can start ASAP

As I was telling Cam, I don't really use Slack very much except for Shield/Tort - So it's not always open or delivering notifications

@Ryan note

Our priority FIRST is to get people in for Integrations We are failing here miserably. These people MUST first get Integrations moving faster and under control. You can not pull any of these initial candidates into anything aside from this until this department is stable, efficient and can perform. We are about to lose 10+million due to constant delays, terrible performance.

Cameron Rentch (cameron@internetthings.com)
2024-08-19 11:38:25

Having said that we will be hiring these people, incuding Daniel and will have a constant stead flow of candidates. @deleted-U056TJH4KUL reaching out to you shortly to catch up

@Cameron Rentch@deleted-U056TJH4KUL, Daniel has my vote. Has the skills, has the "support engineer" DNA and that means he understands "customer / revenue obessession" that we have when dealing with urgency client needs.

Jose Harper: • Lives in North Vegas - happy to be on site • Excellent comm skills - very likeable guy instantly • Can do a bit of everything -- has API experience, can write simple to advanced code in python and sql, and is asked to do a wide array of ad hoc tasks on a daily basis • Open to looking because there doesn't seem to be much long term security at his current job -- They keep telling people they're safe, but then they're letting them go, replacing them with less qualified people, and expecting them to pick up the extra workload AND train people at the same time, all while nobody knows if they'll have a job tomorrow -- not a good set up • Current company is a short term loan/financial services company -- used to handling sensitive data

• mix-up with the Google Meet links, but he handled it well and addressed it • Vegas local in Skye Canyon (long commute), but no concerns with travel or scheduling • he recapped his conversation with Cam and I reiterated the expectations and cultural items • has experience with APIs, but not with MPA, which is fine; he understood the process and milestones ◦ discussed the value stream and he follows; advised we need people to not just move the API projects forward, but to think about how we can apply principles to scale and speed up and he seems to think critically and gave examples • discussed the sense or urgency with projects and communication required to be successful here ◦ he communicates well and gave examples of his current method of following up with peers/vendors/management to get things done; speaks well and seems to understand how to read his audience; he offered that there is a breaking point where a lack of follow through on comms on behalf of a client/vendor can indicate the lack of desire to do business together, but he would pursue appropriately • walked through the funnel at high-level and how integrations and data analysis fits in; he understood and related it to his short-term lending company experience ◦ STL project example was analyzing when dialing on leads is most effective and setting up a strategy from there for the contact center; we can leverage this well and more effectively than with current or previous data engineers • believes his SQL and Python skills are an 8/10 each; he won't call himself an expert because there is always room for error and learning with code which shows good self-awareness ◦ he played off the self-awareness angle and shared he has a routine in the morning, but can get to office by 8 or 9; said he has ulcerative colitis, but docs have it under control and it doesn't cause him to miss days at work (TMI) • has not led a team in the past; is the onboarding go-to person at his current company ◦ I set the expectation that in this role or the adjacent ones, ownership and showing leadership amongst peers is important; even for those in leadership roles, it is expected that there are assigned tasks and/or production responsibility • he asked if he would have the chance to come into the office and meet with any of us; I shared that he should share this with Cory and that I would be open to a tour or onsite interview if he/Cory set it up I recommend moving forward with the Ryan conversation, and if that goes well, set up a tour/meeting with me (and McFadden). If Ryan's interview isn't happening quickly, it's fine to move the tour up. Jose communicates well enough that I think he can be effective within the team and in front of clients where needed. It might be a stretch to have him come in to lead the team right away, but it might organically happen if he joins in and we can go from there.

These are notes from Nick Ward on his interview today - for your review and consideration
