You could just use it and not worry about it. Worst case they copyright strike or ask to take it down.

You could also have on screen text that’s like a legal line that has the source like “source: ABC Action News” just so there is a clear “I’m not trying to say I own this” statement.

But at the need of the day, we don’t own them and technically can’t use them without permission.

I would add that depending on what the script is like, maybe someone reacting to what the news said, etc , you might be able to argue fair use for using the copyrighted stuff.

I’m no legal expert on the matter, but that is our general take when deciding how to use material from outside sources.
